About
Welcome to my homepage! The links you see to your right are to pages that I either manage or collaborate on. I don’t yet accept donations for my labor of love, but if you’re so moved to contribute, contact me below in order to discuss how you wish to support my sites.
RudyCarrera.com/wp – The mothership. I cover (Conservative) politics, science, the Internet, military news, the War on Terror and anything I find interesting, even if you don’t.
A Conservative Compendium – A collection of links to politics, economics and law which I find interesting.
A Miscellany of Tasteful Music – My labor of love for music. I cover everything from Robert Goulet to Throbbing Gristle, have an encyclopedia of bands, labels, genres I enjoy on the sidebar, and have begun adding playlists to posts. I’ll eventually do that weekly, but as it stands now, I have enough to do with general blogging.
Apocatastasis – My site dealing with all matters religious. I am a practicing Eastern Orthodox Christian, but I have a profound interest in religious matters from all over the world.
Mappa Mundi – A collection of links relating to nations and cultures.
Pensas – The word Pensas is Castilian for ‘thought’. Here are posts and links to philosophical and cultural matters that don’t fit on the main page.
Steinblöm – A page dedicated to the non-musical arts for the time being. Its mission may change. We’ll see next year.
My Bulletin Boards
Rudy Carrera’s bbPress – A general bulletin board made as a practice tool.
Outside Sites
The Carrera-Linn Cultural Exchange – My record label and artist representation site.
Rudy’s Corner – My site for the Tower of Babel, a venerable organization.

Now, about me…
I’m an educator and publisher of music, a Leo (though I don’t subscribe to any of that Zodiac nonsense), an Eastern Orthodox Christian having converted from a background of Roman Catholicism and Lutheranism). I’m also just a curious man seeking to (literally) learn something new every day.
By heritage, I am American by birth. My parents came from Mexico, and their ancestors hailed from Spain (Galicia) and Germany (formerly East Prussia, now the Kaliningrad Oblast, or exclave, Russia). I was a legal resident of the Republic of Macedonia (I refuse to call it F.Y.R.O.M), and I consider that country my home away from home.
The main purpose of this site is to document everything I like, and as you can tell, I like a lot of things. I’m constantly modifying the page and blogging on things that I find interesting. I write knowing full well that not everyone will be in full agreement with what I have to say. That’s fine by me. Frankly, that’s also healthy, as debate on topics help one learn more about the world. To give fair warning, however, I write as a political and military conservative, as well as from an extremely liberal arts perspective. I will not engage in debates on why this is so. Just accept it.
WHY DO THIS?
Why did I do this site? It’s an exercise in demonstrating who I am and what I like. Consider it as a sort of Encyclopædia Rudaica.
I have a readership that spans the globe which was earned from constant traveling. I’ve been fortunate enough to have had contact with people of varying ethnic, cultural and religious backgrounds, giving me a well-rounded view of the world (or so I hope).
These experiences have, in turn, led me to explore other areas of interest, such as music, art, film, a little science, business and other subjects you see listed before you.
What you have here is as close to a full picture of me you can get without actually meeting me; of course, I’m always up for hot tea (or rakija, or vodka, or ouzo) and conversation with anyone who has something worthwhile to say.
I’ve promised myself to do more Podcasts of music I like. We’ll see how that goes in the future.
Anyway, to summarize, this is a blog of the things that make me, well, me. I do it because of both sheer will and a want to communicate with like (and even not-so-like) minds (I’ve only had one serious detractor, and his problem had to do more with getting married to someone he coveted rather than any honest disagreement, as I never met the bum).
Most of the posts are done for me to demonstrate to friends, students, and my readers, and most know me well enough to just send an e-mail or call to either agree or complain. Take it for what it is: a quick read of what I am interested in. Enjoy!
PARTICULARS
This blog is an extension of conversations I have with friends and students. The opinions printed herein are mine, and are subject to change based on the gathering of more information, and should be respected as such. I’ll engage anyone in debate, and I’m not so full of pride that I can’t sit down with someone and have a fair, spirited and reasoned disagreement.
All material herein is either:
- My copyrighted work, which I do enforce.
- Work whose copyright stays with the entity who provided me with the link.
- Work pointed to in the interest of Fair Use.
As for the pages, these are collections of links to things I like. I don’t take advertisements on anything listed here, so don’t ask me to place a link to something just to shill a product. If it’s something I enjoy, I’ll put it up here somewhere. If not, I simply won’t.
If there’s anything else you wish to know, look below and contact me that way. It would be absolutely delightful to hear from you.
Please do understand that this site will ALWAYS be a work in progress. It’s a labor of love, and your window to me. Welcome!
SPECIFICATIONS
I am a huge proponent of Unicode, as are most people, companies and services working wih Open Source Technology, namely because it is flexible enough to allow alphabets and other scripts into my posts with no breakage in quality. Please set your browsers to have UTF-8 ability so that you can take advantage of this wonderful ability to type in Latin, Greek, Cyrillic or God-knows-what. For more on Unicode, click the link.
Latin and Cyrillic characters are used when I write with commonly, and the links provided will give you a history of both scripts.
You may wish to look at SIL International for fonts that should cover all major world alphabets. I will eventually move over to these fonts, but I wish to wait for my readership to provide comments on their opinions of these fonts.
Also, 1152 x 864 is the preferred screen size resolution that I’d like you to use. If it’s any smaller than this, you will simply have to scroll over to continue reading. Annoying, true, but perhaps this may motivate you to purchase a better monitor.
