Doc Watson dies at 89; guitarist and singer

The legendary bluegrass musician Arthel Lane “Doc” Watson passed away today at the age of 89. The Los Angeles Times has an obituary posted on Doc’s passing.

The video shows Doc and Mike Seeger performing the Bluegrass standard, “The Cuckoo.”

EMI says bankruptcy won’t protect MP3tunes from copyright suit

MP3tunes was one of the most useful services I subscribed to. It was a great place to store lots of music for access to a host of devices. Michael Robertson, the man who came up with the site, is an investor best-known for founding MP3.com, a service I used to sign a few bands in my youth. Unfortunately, the legal division at EMI, unable to mount an effective challenge to Apple or Google who host similar, less-useful music lockers, attacked Robertson and this gem of a service successfully. Another great tool bites the dust.

Sad news. Adam Yauch, one of the legendary Beastie Boys, passed away today from cancer. He was only 47 years old.
